    How can we help *

My interest in woodworking began in the mid-seventies, with small musical instruments. Over the years I've pursued my own designs, and have been involved with various designers and architects on projects both residential and commercial, including dining, bedroom ensembles, kitchens, bars, entertainment centers, desks, wall units of all kinds, fireplace surrounds and stairways. Of the many furniture commissions, some of my favorites include a reproduction of an oriental armchair, Windsor style rocking chairs, and a swinging bookcase. I'm especially proud of a 20 foot wooden sailboat, the Kelani Rose, a gaff rigged cat - yawl, that won first prize in the Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival, for the best new construction category. (What year) Living on the Sunshine Coast has deepened my appreciation of the natural wonders of our forests, especially the big leaf maple, which is locally sourced and kiln dried. Many of my designs include figured maple and a contrasting darker wood such as walnut, cherry, or sapele. I'm currently further exploring a joinery technique I developed that I call the hidden winding miter, which allows for seamless sculpted joints following an endless variety of flowing lines. Many of these pieces have been displayed in galleries and found homes in Vancouver Calgary, Phoenix and New York. My love for the Sam Maloof rocking chairs has inspired me to create my own version of often using the figured local maple, of which I've made a couple of dozen over the years. Although my small shop in Sechelt is well equipped with machinery and power tools, nearly all the finish shapes and surfaces of my furniture are hand-tooled, and that remains a primary passion in my work.
